The Franco-German consortium Chaix & Morel et Associés and JSWD Architects has come up with a new, humane concept of corporate architecture for the spectacular headquarters of the steel company ThyssenKrupp in Essen: in a loosely arranged yet definite urban order, the architects from Cologne and Paris grouped twelve buildings together on a green, 17 hectare large campus around a common center. Being organized like a small urban district, this structure consisting of equal buildings can flexibly react to changes within the company, forming an ideal architectural framework for furthering dialog and exchange of knowledge. In architectural terms also, the headquarters at the former site of the Krupp cast steel factory neatly exemplifies the 21st century's most important resources: knowledge and human skills.
